BIOGRAPHY

Enrique Lázaro is a Spanish pianist and arranger known for producing and performing cover music of movie soundtracks, Disney songs, and pop hits. With over 9,000 subscribers on YouTube and 60,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, his melodic arrangements touch hearts around the world.

His tutorial-style YouTube videos, filmed in zenithal shot, offer an insight into finger positions for those just starting out on the instrument.

Influenced by composers such as Hans Zimmer, Alan Menken or James Horner, Enrique’s melodic arrangements are created to be a source of inspiration and to bring piano music to the youngest.

Enrique Lázaro was born in Rocafort, Valencia (Spain) in 1987 and from a very young age he began studying at the music school of his city. His first instrument was the clarinet, with which he formally graduated from the Conservatory of Music of Riba-roja de Turia in 2005. During his years at the Conservatory, he played in several bands and orchestras and started to play the piano. He took piano lessons for several years, which gave him a solid background to continue to grow on his own.

In 2017 he opened his official YouTube channel where he started uploading some of his favorite piano arrangements.

His musical project is focused on instrumental piano music and is characterized by a clean sound with an emphasis on expression, so it is common to find notable changes in expression, crescendos, and key changes in his performances. With over 70 arrangements made, Enrique releases a new cover every month, which he publishes on major streaming services as well as the tutorial on YouTube.

Enrique is partnered with Musicnotes, the world’s largest sheet music distributor, having been sponsored by them in a video as a featured artist.
His music is available on all major streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and Amazon Music.

Some of his songs have received hundreds of thousands of streams on Spotify, such as Part of Your World (From “The Little Mermaid”) and Beauty and the Beast with more than +400,000 streams each one.

Enrique currently works as a full-time independent artist and his music accumulates millions of streams across all music streaming services.

F.A.Q.

When did you start studying music?

I started at the age of 5, although it was an introduction to music. Formal studies with the clarinet started at 7; the piano at the age of 10.

What is your piano model?

My current keyboard is a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-535. That’s the one I’ve used for almost all my videos.

How much time do you play the piano each day?

I play the piano for about 45-60 minutes every day. If I’m practicing a song for a video recording, then I usually practice for a few hours, maybe two hours per day.

How do you record your videos?

I use a Nikon D5300 camera with a SIGMA 17-50/2.8 EX DC OS HSM lens. I connect the ‘Piano Led’ LED strip using the MIDI output to illuminate the piano while playing. I typically place a black blanket under my feet. I play without shoes and with minimal lighting to capture the reflections of the lights on the keys. The audio is recorded through the piano’s USB output.

What program do you use to create Synthesia-style videos?

I use several programs, primarily After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, and also SeeMusic and Keysight. It’s a rather lengthy process.

How many years of formal training do you have?

13 years of formal music education.

What kind of keyboard should I buy?

The best advice I can give you is to buy the most expensive piano you can afford. Do not buy anything below $1000. Ideally, aim for something above $2000. Don’t purchase it without trying it first. Good brands include Yamaha, Kawai, and Roland. Make sure the piano has weighted keys.
In my opinion, upright pianos are better than digital ones, although each has its advantages and disadvantages.

Why do you only sell your sheet music on Musicnotes?

When selling sheet music for a cover, a portion of the money must be paid to the original composer or the record label managing the rights. This payment, known as royalties, it is essential to avoid legal actions against me. For instance, if I were to sell sheet music for “Circle of Life” from The Lion King, a percentage of the sale would go to Disney. Musicnotes handles the payment of these royalties, ensuring that the sale is entirely legitimate. In other words, I only receive a small fraction of what you pay for each sheet music.

How do you recommend I improve my piano abilities?

Easy. Follow these two rules:
1. Practice every day for at least 30 minutes
2. Don’t play anything that doesn’t motivate you to keep playing. If you don’t like Beethoven, don’t play it.

Are you available for hiring? Do you play live concerts?

Not at the moment. I have a lot of responsibilities as a father and I don’t have time to prepare a repertoire. Maybe in the future!

Yes you can! Writing a score from scratch requires a lot of time, but if you provide me with an audio file / video I will be able to prepare a custom arrangement for you.
